LA RAMBLA

/ MONUMENTOS Y LUGARES DE INTERÉS

With no doubt, this is the city’s most cosmopolitan street, where the most diverse of crowds gather: locals and tourists going for a stroll, musicians and comedians, night-life addicts and prostitutes... La Rambla was initially just a small river, a torrent (in Arabic, rambla means torrent). However, the street has evolved in such a way that it has ended up being divided into 5 sections: Rambla de Canaletes, Rambla dels Estudis, Rambla de Sant Josep, Rambla dels Caputxins, and Rambla de Santa Mònica.

The most interesting parts of La Rambla are: the Joan Miro mosaic; the Liceu (Opera Theater of Barcelona); the Boqueria market; and exhibition centres such as the Palau de la Virreina (the Vicereine Palace) or the Centre d’Art Santa Mònica (Santa Monica Art Centre).
