GAUDI

/ MONUMENTOS Y LUGARES DE INTERÉS

CASA BATLLÓ (Batlló House)

Located at number 43, Passeig de Gràcia. It was built between 1904 and 1906. Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926) designed an avant-garde and personal house, with its lighting set and its almost psychedelic shapes.

CASA MILÀ: LA PEDRERA (Milà House)
It is considered by many as Gaudi’s master piece. It is located at 92, Passeig de Gràcia, and was one of the latest buildings to be built in the Eixample area (from 1905 to 1910). All designs, inner and outer areas, furniture, as well as small details (door knobs, handrails, etc.) are part of Master Gaudi’s work. Gaudí was posthumously awarded with a UNESCO declaration for la Pedrera to become a World Heritage Site.

PARK GÜELL
This park was born out of a wish of a businessman called Eusebi Güell, who contracted Gaudí to build a residential park near Can Montaner, a real estate of his. The building works, supervised by Gaudí, lasted for 4 years (1900-1904) and received support from F. Berenguer and Josep Maria Jujol, regular collaborators of the genius. Among the most outstanding parts of this magnificent park one can find the Sala de les Cent Columnes (Room of the One Hundred Columns) - on top of which there is a viewpoint made of a long sea wave shaped bench; the flight of steps for the main access to the park; and the Font del Drac (Dragon Fountain). Inside the park one can visit the Gaudí Museum, where personal objects and testimonials of many professional projects of the brilliant architect are exhibited. There is also a library specialized in Gaudi themes which can be used upon request.

SAGRADA FAMÍLIA (Sacred Family Temple)
Of all architecture works of Barcelona and Catalonia, the Sagrada Família is, no doubt, the one that holds the most important symbolic value. It represents the peak of modernist architecture in Barcelona and it is also the most influential of Gaudi’s works.
The Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Família has three façades: the Naixement (Birth) one, facing Carrer Marina, whose construction works started in 1891 and whose first tower was finished by 1925 (which was the only one that Gaudí lived to see completed). It is a floral and colouristic façade given that it represents the birth of Christ. The second façade is the Passió (Passion) one, looking out onto Carrer Sicília, with Josep Maria Subirachs’ sculptures which explain the last days of Jesus. The last façade, the so-called Glòria one (Glory), is not yet built but will be overlooking Carrer Mallorca.
The temple building works are currently going on and the funds raised through the sale of entry tickets and donations by visitors are destined
