BANYOLES LAKE
This is a natural limestone lake. Excavations carried out so far link it to cultures thousands of years old, with the famous Banyoles jaw - more than 100,000 years old - having been found there. The lake is 107 hectares and over 2 km long. The most surprising thing about this lake system - of significant interest from the point of view of the landscape and geology - is the origin of its water, which comes from filtered rain channelled through subterranean rivers. This is a place that must be visited by anybody interested in exploring a natural spot that is unique thanks to its characteristics and the richness of the landscape.
